Statistics speak to the need for improved Emotional Intelligence in the workforce. The typical manager spends 25-40% of his or her time dealing with workplace conflicts. That’s one to two days of every work week (Washington Business Journal, May 2005).
As can be seen in The Persuasion Tools Model below, emotion is a key component in conflict resolution. Being able to understand one’s own emotions as well as those involved in the dispute leads to successful mediation.
It’s not how hard you work, how smart you are or what degree you have. If you have the ability to build a coalition, you will be successful.
